TOSS

TOSS is an illustrated book of poetry about insomnia. Night after night, scratching sketches into a little book, searching to separate quiet blackness from the pervasive visual noise, a cranky middle-aged man wanders the dark wondering why. Peevish insomnia is an unappreciated luxury.

The project TOSS was a result of trying to make insomnia productive. I made drawings in the dark, then wrote down impressions of those scenes as they occurred to me. The process resulted in a collection of pseudo-ekphrastic poems and images: an impossible search for true darkness and quiet, the development of a character with a life of his own.
