William’s Gambit

A Highly Illustrated Middle Grade Novel (work in Progress)

Twelve-year-old William’s own energy has been used to trap him inside an impossible white space where he is being forced to tell a “perfect story” to save himself. Meanwhile, outside, crazy Miz Emma and Mister Scuppers, the six-toed leader of the old lady’s troupe of highly-trained circus cats, fight to keep the boy’s magical construction from collapsing and trapping him inside forever.

William’s Gambit is a “Be careful what you wish for, you might just get what you need” story.

William Talisman Dapper wants to be left alone. He has an over-protective mother, a father who is mostly absent, and an attitude that would rather not deal with the real world. His sharp darting eyes are easily able to navigate the deluge of distractions that pours across his video screen and it’s into this universe that he wants to escape.

The trouble is: All of that is gone now—his parents, his game, his world. William is kidnapped and left to wander blind in white nothingness.

This highly illustrated middle-grade novel is all about self-reliance and coming to terms with unexplainable situations.
